Roger & Gallet Blue Carnation Perfume
Blue Carnation perfume is a spicy-floral (think carnations, vanilla, cloves, and bay rum) number that is outstandingly great smelling and much sought-after by antique perfume aficionados and is considered by experts to be by far the greatest soliflore carnation perfume ever made. Antique because it was created in 1937 and hasn't been made since the mid-sixties (??); a fact that is incomprehensible to those who know what it smells like.
Much chat about BC can be found on http://www.100perfumes.com/forums/Perfume/m13742.htm Someone says Lorenzo Villerosi "Garafano" is similar, or at least carnation based, and good. Others say Bellogia and Floris' Malmaison are in the ballpark. BUT NOBODY CLAIM ANYTHING TO BE AS GOOD OR BETTER THAN BC.
I, myself, looked for it for 3 decades without success until I discovered some on ebay a few years ago. Since then I have bought about 6 bottles, most recently on Sept 25, 2006 (today). I outbid the likes of exec_extreme, barbedwyer, chmfm, and a very determined and tough pkwhammy. None of them had a chance because the luvcat got his dander up and I got 8oz of BC for only a few hundred dollars-far less than my high bid.
Why do I do it? Because my first 2 girlfriends Jackie and Nancy wore it (because I gave it to them)and I wanted it to remind me of them. But mainly because I love the scent now as much as I did when I first smelled it decades ago.

So share it with us. You don't need 6 bottles. There are many women that absolutely love the fragrance, and actually WEAR it. Please put a bottle or 2 back up on the ebay. :)
Maxigirl99,
I might sell some someday, but for now I can't bear to part with it. I DO wear it sometimes even though it causes my daughters think I'm gay.
Keep an eye on eBay. It seems to pop up fairly often.
Hi, I just found a bottle of Blue Carnation today. The smell is incredible. It is not new just has about 1/2 inch of eau de toilette in it. I will be putting it on ebay... maybe someone wants it. This was very good info on the fragrance.
You can find a wonderful CARNATION perfume at

I, too, met a girl that wore "Blue Carnation." I was so enthralled by this exquisite perfume that I bought and sent her a bottle.
Through the years the memory lingered. The girl was just a friend but the aroma was one to never be forgotten.
I wrote a song, at age 78, "Blue Carnation Lover" because of that perfume. I posted it on www.youtube.com

I was on the bus today and a woman my age (mid 60s) was wearing this fantastic fragrance. My mother wore it and I inherited her love for this spicy carnation scent. We both wore it thru the 70s and then it became hard to get here in Portland, for some reason the department store we bought it at quit carrying R&G.
I woman I met on the bus said she orders from a specialty perfume maker-she sent a sample to a perfume house and they duplicated it for her a couple of decades ago-but didn't have the name of the house.
Are you familiar with this process? I am mad to have Blue Carnation in my life again!

Hello, you site is very funny he told me to cheer up .. Merry Christmas.
Good sait, its very interesting//
I live in the UK and have been reading a lot about this legendary perfume. There are several sources indicating that HM the Queen discovered Blue Carnation and liked it enough to make it one of her favoured scents. Rogers & Gallet courteously took it off the market so that it would be exclusive to her Majesty.
Perhaps in the reign of the next British monarch Rogers & Gallet will bow to the countless requests and petitions to re-instate Blue Carnation in the original formula.
I had purchased my first bottle of this lovely scent back in the mid 70's from all places Gemco. It was a total splurge for a poor single working mother of one. I will never forget it's intoxicating scent carnation mingled with cloves that mellowed to a beautiful powdery solitaire of carnations. It's hypnotic smell had many strangers from both sexes asking it's name. I adored the scent and quickly had gone through the bottle...never to purchase another one while in production.
I didn't think of this scent for a long time until the last few years, I was disappointed it was discontinued and the rarity and costs at auction. Yesterday I managed to procure one small bottle on Ebay and cannot wait until I can once again thrill my olfactory...and who knows, maybe others too.
